Courtney Alwine Announces Candidacy for Miami County Prosecutor

PERU, IN — Courtney Alwine, a Miami County resident and career prosecutor, today announced her candidacy for Miami County Prosecutor in the 2026 Republican primary.

Alwine has served in the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office since 2017, following her time with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Known for her hard work, integrity, and hands-on leadership, she has handled some of the county’s most serious cases, including murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery, auto theft, OVWI, child victim cases, Miami Correctional Facility cases, and the high-profile State of Indiana v. Kegan Kline.

“This is the community that raised me,” Alwine said. “The running joke has always been that I was born in Peru and raised in Mexico, but Miami County is my home. It is my absolute honor to fight for this community every day.”

Under Alwine’s leadership, the prosecutor’s office has become one of the most efficient and effective in county history. She has overseen the transition to a paperless system, streamlined processes, and built a team that operates like a “well-oiled machine.”

“The demands on the Prosecutor’s Office today are vastly different than in years past,” Alwine said. “Our caseload is astronomical, and every member of the team plays a vital role in keeping the office running effectively. Success requires a prosecutor who can lead by example and manage an office that is constantly moving. We work hard, support each other, and make sure justice doesn’t pause simply because the work is difficult. That dedication is what keeps Miami County safe and our justice system strong.”

Alwine emphasized that her vision for the next four years is to continue that forward progress.
“We will keep fighting for justice even when justice doesn’t always look like a conviction,” she said. “Sometimes it means helping someone get their license back when they’re trying to turn their life around. Sometimes it means a hard dismissal when evidence isn’t there. And sometimes it means taking the toughest cases all the way to a jury. Our duty is to do the right thing, every time, even when it’s the hard thing.”

Alwine’s campaign will center on her guiding philosophy:
“I’m running for Miami County Prosecutor because justice requires results, not excuses. I’ve tried the tough cases, stood alongside victims, and built a modern and efficient office that works as hard as the people we serve. My promise is simple: I will lead by example, protect our community, and deliver justice with integrity every day.”
